STUDIO CULTURE

The OSU viola studio is made up of major and non-major violists. Students receive private lessons, attend a weekly studio class, perform in the OSU Symphony Orchestra, and engage in masterclasses with prominent professionals cocerning solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire. A partnership with the Tulsa Symphony allows for graduate students to receive a full tuition waiver as well as perform classical works regularly with the Tulsa Symphony.Viola Studio F20191

Students are highly encouraged and supported in their teaching and performing. Many maintain private studios of their own, work toward their Suzuki certification, participate in educational programming with the Community Music School, and volunteer as part of the Young Person Concert series with the McKnight Center for the Performing ArtsStudents have the opportunity to study chamber music in a variety of instrumentations including the traditional string quartet. Performance opportunities are numerous and include weekly studio class, the noon concert series at the Edmond Low Library, weekly recital hour, required degree recitals, visitng artist masterclasses, and incidental events.
